Hi all you wonderful humans!

We are gearing up for the upcoming elections. Time to roll up your sleeves and make with the elbow grease. There’s plenty of info in this email to help you connect with candidates. Please take a moment to look deep within, search your soul, and consider how you can help convert the blue wave into a fierce tsunami. You’ll feel totally awesome when you help in whatever capacity you can. I absolutely promise.

LET’S BOOGIE!

  Mobilize Meeting – Sunday, Aug 19, 12:15-1:45 @ CPJC

We’ve booked two candidates to speak at the meeting:

(More info about candidates can be found below)

We want to provide ample time for interaction and Q&A with the candidates but there are other items on the agenda if time allows. You should come spend an hour and a half in an air conditioned space with like-minded folks.

How to Get Involved in Campaigns

Mobilize has not slowed down a bit – that ain’t so. Many of us are all in helping with campaigns. Want some ideas on how you can help?

  • Have a little time? Volunteer! Do it. An hour or two here and there is more helpful than you might think and it feels really great to help a candidate you believe in (speaking from experience)
  • Don’t have time but have $5, $10, $50, $500? You’re in luck! All the candidates listed below accept (and totally appreciate) contributions for their campaigns. Yard signs, billboards, TV ads, t-shirts, stickers, etc are not cheap, but they’re all necessary to compete
  • Don’t have time or money? Consider requesting a yard sign from any of the above candidates – most (if not all) of them will deliver a sign directly to your home even if you’re not there
  • You might also consider holding a fundraiser at your home. Invite your neighbors, friends, and family to come to your home for a couple of hours to interact with candidates

Okay, so let’s talk candidates… I might be missing a name or two (and I do apologize if so) but here is a list with info and links to help you connect with the campaigns, in no particular order:

Chico City Council Candidates:

CA State Assembly candidate district 3

US Congressional candidate for our district (CD01)

Change is coming. We ARE going to make it happen but we can’t completely relax (as if the news cycle would allow that anyhow)… The elections are just a few months away!

  WORD News!

Today’s (8/16) Chico News & Review features a display ad sponsored by WORD that highlights the comprehensive reproductive health care provided by Women’s Health Specialists and Planned Parenthood. It also raises awareness of the local crisis pregnancy center that misleads women by referring to themselves as a clinic, while offering only shame-based counseling. Check out page 15 of the CNR for WORD’s ad!

Mark your calendar for Friday, October 5th. The Women’s Resource “Clinic,” our local crisis pregnancy center, will once again provoke our community by holding its annual fall fundraiser at the Bell Memorial Union (BMU) on the Chico State campus. The guest speaker is David Bereit, noted forced-birth advocate and co-founder of 40 Days for Life.

To get fired up, you can read about the 40 Days for Life movement here: https://40daysforlife.com/ and about Bereit’s current anti-woman organization, the Equal Rights Institute, here: https://equalrightsinstitute.com/. More details about the protest will follow in the next few weeks.

  Upcoming Events and Other Business:

  • Sunday, August 19: Mobilize meeting from 12:15 to 1:45pm at the Chico Peace and Justice Center
  • August 23-26: Keep Pride In Mind hosted by Stonewall Alliance
  • Kate is looking for a few extra hands for the upcoming Depolarize workshop. If you want to take part in the event or would like more info you can contact Kate directly to get involved

There’s (always) more but this will have to do for now. If you’ve made it this far then I commend you. On behalf of the Mobilize coordinating committee, thank you for being involved and committed to making change. It’s truly an honor to work with you all.

I look forward to seeing your face on Sunday!

Hope everyone is well and happy,
Roderick for Mobilize
